Mumbai, Jan 27 (IANS) Automobile major Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M;) Friday said it has received around 5,900-plus bookings for its sports utility vehicle (SUV) XUV500 in just two days after the bookings were reopened Jan 25.

The second phase of bookings will be kept open for a period of 10 days from Jan 25 till Feb 3, a company statement said.

“As a unique customer-centric measure, M&M; has decided to undertake an XUV500 draw in this round of bookings in case the requests exceed 7,200 (bookings),” the statement said.

The draw process will be validated by the professional services firm, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India.

The company received 8,000-plus bookings in just 10 days after the launch in October 2011.

The company has also raised prices of XUV500 from Jan 1, 2012, due to increase in the prices of raw materials and depreciation of the rupee.

The price of base model W6 has been hiked by Rs.30,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) and that of models W8-FWD and W8-AWD have been hiked by Rs.50,000 and Rs.55,000, respectively.

XUV500 was initially launched in a price range of Rs.10.8-12.88 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in October.
