Maharashtra Electrosmelt gets new directorApril 25th, 2008 - 8:48 pm ICT by admin
Raipur, April 25 (IANS) R. Ramaraju, managing director of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), a flagship company of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), has been nominated as director and chairman of Maharashtra Electrosmelt Ltd (MEL), an official statement said Friday. MEL, headquartered at Maharashtra’s Chandrapur, is a subsidiary of SAIL.
“The responsibility of Ramaraju, graduated in electrical engineering from Madras University, will be in addition to his present posting as managing director of BSP. This new assignment is in recognition of his leadership skills and willingness to take up new challenges,” the statement said.
The release added: “As BSP’s managing director, Ramaraju who is also leading the plant’s massive modernisation and expansion programme, helped BSP achieve the best ever production records in the just ended fiscal (2007-08).”
BSP smashed its previous records during last fiscal and raised its annual production to 5.3 million tonnes of hot metal, 5.1 million tonnes of crude steel and 4.43 million tonnes of saleable steel.
