Paris, France, July 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The wealthiest woman of France, the heiress of L’Oreal fortune, Mrs. Liliane Bettencourt faced the French police on Monday when they turned up at her Paris suburb residence to question her about the suspected tax evasion and money laundering. The news was revealed to media sources by Georges Kiejman, the lawyer of the 87-year-old heiress of the cosmetic company, who said that the French investigators are questioning her on her finances at her villa in Paris’ Neuilly. The lawyer maintained that his client is being questioned “as a witness” and added that the investigators have also carried out search at her villa reportedly.
The L’Oreal heiress is at the center of the financial scandal that has rocked the French government. She came under media spotlight this June when her ex-butler leaked details about her tax and inheritance situation. Not only are the French investigators investigating the case of alleged tax evasion by Mrs. Liliane Bettencourt but also looking into the allegation that the heiress of the giant cosmetic company has made illegal cash donation for the presidential campaign of Nicolas Sarkozy back in 2007.
Some media sources have suggested that Mrs. Liliane Bettencourt would have been most likely asked to provide accounts for or explain the two undeclared Swiss bank account and an island in the Seychelles which has been mentioned by her ex-butler. Some sources added that the heiress might had to face questions regarding the accusations made by a former bookkeeper that Mrs. Liliane Bettencourt along with her husband had donated cash to conservative politicians like Eric Woerth.
