The students, sponsored by the India-US Science and Technology Forum, will visit the Lockheed Martin Center at Suffolk, Virginia, June 13-17.
The Center for Innovation is a world class laboratory for collaborative experimentation and analysis involving Lockheed Martin, one of the world’s leading defence and technology equipment companies, its customers and industry partners.
The students - Ashish Tanwer, Muzahid Hussain, Himanshu, Keshav Sodhi, Anubhav Mangal, Rohan Shukla and Punyata Gayatri - won the competition “Military Racing Challenge - autonomous ground vehicle for low-intensity conflict” organised by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Chennai recently.
Nearly 240 teams participated in the competition.
Thapar University director Abhijit Mukherjee said: “We believe in encouraging our students to think laterally and develop varied interests. I wish them all the best for this programme and believe it will be a wonderful experience for them.”
The university is in Patiala, 90 km from Chandigarh.
The Center for Innovation has core resources to test ideas and analyse warfare concepts, and this is where Lockheed Martin will collaborate with customers to develop integrated net-centric solutions for defence.
