Lithuanian delegation talks trade with FICCI
December 2nd, 2009 - 4:15 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 2 (IANS) A 30-member delegation from trade associations of Lithuania Wednesday met the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) to work out ways to strengthen business ties with India.
“We are looking forward to renewed business ties with India,” Lithuania’s Minister Counsellor Albretas A. Dambraus told reporters here.
“With the embassy in New Delhi and the consulate in Mumbai, we can look forward to serious business relationships,” Dambraus added.
Lithuania Tuesday announced the opening of the embassy in New Delhi and a consulate in Mumbai Dec 4 to strengthen economic ties.
The diplomat said that in the past, there has been cultural exchanges between the two countries. “But now we are looking at serious business. Bilateral trade is estimated at 267.5 million euro ($402 million).”
Lithuania will also sign new bilateral trade and double taxation avoidance agreements with India, he said.
“There are many areas like medicine, nuclear energy, science and technology, and food processing where both countries can cooperate. India can look at Lithuania as a point to enter European Union.”
Lithuanian Foreign Affairs Minister Vygaudas Usackas and Minister of Economy Dainius Kreivys is accompanying the delegation from Lithuania.
During the visit, Usackas will meet External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, Commerce Minister Anand Sharma and Leader of the Opposition L.K. Advani.
The Lithuanian delegation will visit Mumbai Thursday.
