Liquor gets cheaper in Himachal PradeshFebruary 22nd, 2008 - 11:37 pm ICT by admin
Shimla, Feb 22 (IANS) Liquor will now be cheaper in Himachal Pradesh as the state government Friday reduced value added tax (VAT) rates from 20 percent to 12.5 percent. This decision on the new excise policy was taken at a cabinet meeting, held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal at Dharamsala, Kangra district.
On an average, it will reduce the price of country-made liquor bottle by about Rs.15 and by Rs.23 of foreign liquor.
The cabinet decision was expected to revise VAT rates after concerns were raised from different quarters over cheap liquor being smuggled into the state from neighbouring Punjab and Haryana.
