Lawsuit against Wal-Mart To Go For A Trial
April 27th, 2010 - 8:58 pm ICT by Pen Men At WorkApril 27, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): In response to a lawsuit against Wal-Mart, an American federal appeals court has ruled that the retail giant, Wal-Mart, will have to encounter charges that it shells out to females less money than to males for the same jobs and that female workers obtain fewer promotions and have to wait longer for those promotions than their male counterparts.
The lawsuit against Wal-Mart is the biggest class-action employment lawsuit in the history of America and seeks millions of dollars in compensation. The lawsuit alleges that the company’s tough and centralized composition has enabled gender stereotyping and discrimination. The verdict of the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals has exposed Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to billions of dollars in legal reimbursements.
The Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, in a divided six-to-five vote, decreed that the Wal-Mart Stores will have to protect itself against a massive class action lawsuit that alleges that it has discriminated against its female personnel. The Arkansas-based chain of stores now has the alternative of appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court for a review.
Jeff Gearhart, general counsel of Wal-Mart, has elucidated that they do not agree with the decision and are bearing in mind the options of seeking a reassessment from the Supreme Court.
Jocelyn Larkin is a legal representative with Impact Fund, one of the law firms standing for the plaintiffs. The legal representative has declared that Wal-Mart had been endeavoring to thwart the case from going forward as a class action lawsuit since the time the lawsuit was launched in 2001. She declared that that they expect the case to be in front of a courthouse within a year. As of now, there has been no talk of a compromise.
