Larsen and Toubro wins orders worth $217 mn (Business Capsule)

Mumbai, Aug 24 (IANS) Engineering and infrastructure major Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has bagged orders worth $217.45 million (Rs.1,044 crore) from Gulf-based firms to build electrical substations, the company said Monday.L&T in a regulatory statement said it would construct substations for Qatar Petroleum, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Oman Electricity and Transmission Co (OETC) and Kahramma.

Freescale technology forum in Bangalore
Bangalore: Global chip maker Freescale Semiconductor will hold its fifth annual technology forum event here Sep 2-3 to showcase new technologies from its research and development centres and partners.
Freescale chief executive Rich Beyer, Cisco India president Anil Menon and Tejas Networks chief executive Sanjay Nayak will deliver keynote addresses, the Indian subsidiary of the US-based tech firm said in a statement here.
“The forum will enable professionals and developers to focus on embedded solutions for automotive, networking, consumer, industrial and medical electronics sectors,” the statement noted.

GlobalLogic acquires Movius
Bangalore: Software product firm GlobalLogic has acquired Movius Interactive Corp, a provider of messaging and interactive mobile media solutions, to expand its presence in the Indian subcontinent.
“The acquisition will enable us to accelerate product innovation and shorten time-to-market by leveraging GlobalLogic’s product development expertise,” Movius vice-president Jay Whitehurst said in a statement here.

BGR Energy bags Rs.27.14 crore order
Chennai: City-based BGR Energy Systems has bagged a Rs.27.14-crore order from Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam (Bhavini) for supply of 415V motor control centres.
The state-owned Bhavini is building the 500-MW fast breeder reactor at Kalpakkam in Tamil Nadu.

Sical Logistics reserves berth at Chennai Port
Chennai: Integrated logistics provider Sical Logistics has signed a 20-year contract with the Chennai Port Trust to reserve a berth for vessels with a capacity of up to 52,000 tonnes.
The company is also studying the feasibility of receiving gearless vessels to maximise loading and discharging economies for large importers and exporters.
