stx_logo The latest reports suggest that South Korean shipping and construction giant STX is all set to sign a mind boggling shipbuilding deal worth $1.3billion with a European company that is yet to be identified. One newspaper reported that the South Korean company is expected to sign the deal next week for building 10 container vessels. The newspaper has, however, failed to reveal the name of the source for which STX Corp is expected to build the ship. The spokesperson for STX declined to comment on the matter.

STX is also in the news for its $10 billion housing deal with the Ghana Government. The deal could not be signed earlier this month due to some problems that elicited a response from the Minister for water resources, works and housing, Alban SK Bagbin, who said that the reputation of STX and even the Korean President is at stake if the deal is not signed soon. Alban SK Bagbin spoke to the media recently and said that the delay in the signing of the deal with STX will not affect the time table of the implementation and delivery of the housing project. He has also assured that there is no risk involved in the signing of the deal as it is clear in the agreement that Sovereign Guarantee will be used.

The Minister also said that the work on the deal is in progress. He explained that the authorities are meeting regularly to handle the document registration and land acquisition for the project. He also said that the NDC (National Democratic Congress) would not pay heed to the criticism that the $10 billion deal has received.
