Kolkata power firm may hike tariff
August 9th, 2011 - 9:01 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Aug 9 (IANS) The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group-owned city power utility company CESC may hike its tariff if the price of coal increases, said a company official Tuesday.
“If the prices of coal rise, which is most likely, then tariff hike could be inevitable,” said group chairman Sanjiv Goenka.
The company has already raised tariffs by 46 paise per unit in April and filed a petition for another tariff hike for 2011-12 to mitigate the sharp increase in coal prices by Coal India Ltd (CIL) in February.
CESC has submitted a petition to the state electricity regulatory commission (SERC) proposing a 34 paise hike in tariff.
Now the average power tariff of CESC stands at Rs 5.17.
