Kolkata, June 17 (IANS) Bus fares in Kolkata are likely to go up by Re.1 from July 1 due to the increase in prices of petroleum products, West Bengal Transport Minister Subhas Chakraborty said here Tuesday. “We have decided to hike the bus fares to keep up with the rise in petrol and diesel prices. The final decision will be taken at the Left Front meeting to be held later this month. The new fares will come into effect from July 1,” said Chakraborty.
Earlier this month, Chakraborty said the fares will be increased by 50 paise.
The price of diesel has been increased by Rs.3 per litre, of petrol by Rs.5 and that of cooking gas by Rs.50 per cylinder following the spiralling global prices.
