Washington, Feb 10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The United States Consumer Products Safety Commission have ordered the recall of about a half million units of the “ChildESIGNS” drop side cribs and also the Generation 2 Worldwide cribs. Created by the company called the Generation 2 Worldwide, a number of complaints have been registered about the cribs. Perhaps the most horrifying, and the most serious of it all were the reports of the three infant deaths that has occurred due to a malformation in the cribs. Three infants had died after being suffocated under the mattress, where they fell due to the breakage of the side panel.
Besides the tendency of the side panel of breaking, the mattress in the crib also tends to get separated from the underlying support, leading to the creation of a space in which the children might get trapped if they roll over to the side and fall in the space. Moreover, the Consumer Products Safety Commission also reported incidents involving the drop sides and mattresses of the cribs.
The Consumer products Safety Commission is not certain about the number of units that have already been distributed, or sold. However, it is being estimated that about 500,000 cribs had been manufactured before the company closed down in 2005. All stores have been asked to stop the sale of the cribs immediately, and parents have been asked to stop the usage of the same. They have also been asked not to try to repair the broken cribs, instead to return them to the store. Safety kits would not be provided as the manufacturer does not exist, but replacement cribs would be provided by the stores.
