Key remarks by Chidambaram on Mumbai terror attack

Mumbai, July 14 (IANS) Following are some key remarks by Home Minister P. Chidambaram Thursday on the terror attack after visiting the sites with Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan:
- 17 people dead, 131 injured and taken to hospital
- Of the injured, 26 discharged, 82 stable, 23 serious
- Injured were quickly taken to 13 hospitals in 21 ambulances
- No intelligence inputs with central or state agencies
- But cannot call it intelligence failure
- It was a coordinated act, suspects acted clandestinely
- Blasts were not triggered remotely
- Ammonium nitrate was used with timers
- Blast at Dadar of low intensity
- Blasts at Zaveri Bazaar, Opera House of medium-to-high intensity
- Do not speculate on suspects
- Maharashtra government not to proceed with pre-suppositions
- Media also asked to not to speculate, look at one particular direction
- Teams from New Delhi, Mumbai and Pune at work
- Nature of explosive, timer mechanism, container being probed
- Angle that Indo-Pakistan talks are due will be kept in mind
- Not an attack on India’s commercial capital
- India will continue to grow and prosper
- Will explore link with arrest of Indian Mujahideen operators last week
- Will also explore link with arrest of Maoists last week
- This was first major terror attack in Mumbai in 31 months
- Mumbai has been reasonably secure with capacity to deal with threats
- Mumbai police has successfully foiled a large number of terror threats.
