Kerala to invest Rs.2,000 cr on IT infrastructure
December 10th, 2009 - 10:44 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 10 (IANS) Kerala will invest about Rs.2,000 crore in two years to develop IT infrastructure to make the state India’s “most sought-after tier II destination for IT”, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said Thursday.
“Our objective is to make Kerala the most sought-after Tier II destination in the country, and for this we are investing nearly Rs.2,000 crore during 2009-11 for development of infrastructure,” said Achuthanandan.
Delivering his inaugural address at the India IT Summit 2009 near here at Kovalam, the chief minister said: “Given the comparative advantages of the state, we feel the next decade of India’s IT industry would be Kerala’s.”
“I invite you all to come to Kerala to exploit the opportunities the state has to offer.”
High profile IT industry leaders will participate in the two-day event to deliberate on the “Changing role of India in Global IT Business”.
The summit is organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with the state government.
CII Southern Region chairman and chief executive of PSG Industrial Institute C.R. Swaminathan said the summit was organised to help the Kerala government promote the state as “one of the most favourable destinations for IT in India”.
Added Infosys chief executive Kris Gopalakrishnan: “An event of this magnitude was the need of the hour for the IT industry of Kerala.”
