Kerala invites IT firms to set up base in Technopark
January 20th, 2010 - 5:31 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 20 (IANS) Kerala has invited applications from companies engaged in information technology (IT), IT-enabled services and IT infrastructure to set up units in the third phase of software park Technopark here.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the state government said of the 92 acres earmarked for development in the third phase, 22 acres would be given out to those needing their own campus.
Technopark chief executive Mervin Alexander said Thiruvananthapuram has been found to be one of the most attractive destinations for the IT sector due to various advantages including low cost of operations.
“This is a perfect environment for IT/ITES business to flourish and succeed. We at Technopark provide state-of-the-art infrastructure along with a very rejuvenating green environment,” said Alexander.
Support facilities like a 110 KV sub-station and water supply are already operational for the third phase and work on land development, campus roads, sewage treatment plant and canal embankment are in progress.
Added IT department principal secretary Ajay Kumar: “It is imperative we create the necessary infrastructure within the state that will enable a steady and directed growth of IT/ITES companies.”
Details of land allotment and application documents are available at www.technopark.org. The last date for receiving applications is Feb 17.
Software firm IBS has commenced operations in the first phase of the software park consisting of 31 acres, while Tata Consultancy Services is in the process of setting up a development centre.
In the second phase, 86 acres have been declared as a special economic zone where Infosys Technologies and UST Global will develop their campus.
The four companies are expected to provide employment for 35,000 IT professionals.
