Kochi, Sep 13 (IANS) Contrary to general perception, Kerala is a friendly place to locate manufacturing units, Apollo Tyres Chairman Onkar S. Kanwar said Thursday.

He said labour unions in the state abide by the agreement they sign with the company management.

Apollo Tyres exports tyres to different countries from its Kerala plants.

“The plants in Kerala have fuelled Apollo’s growth. We are the largest manufacturing unit in Kerala,” Kanwar said at the the Emerging Kerala 2012 Global Connect conference here.

The company has two plants in the state, employing around 4,500 workers. The two plants has a total production capacity of around 400 tonnes per day (tpd) and rolls out tyres for trucks, off-road vehicles and agricultural vehicles.
