Keeping distributed families together through technologyMay 7th, 2009 - 6:15 pm ICT by IANS
Hyderabad, May 7 (IANS) Buddibot, a web applications company, has developed a web-based communication tool to keep distributed families connected.
This tool, comprising a mobile webcam, will help elderly people remain in touch with their children studying and working abroad through video and audio streams.
Buddibot Thursday launched the subscription-based communication tool, targeting non-resident Indians (NRIs).
The Buddibot 1.0 software comes with generic reminders, messaging service, playlist manager and memories manager. The software works with WowWee Technologies, Rovio mobile webcam and a Wi-Fi-enabled home explorer that can be controlled remotely from anywhere in the world using a web-enabled device.
The tool helps the younger ones to navigate and keep track of the needs of their parents or other elderly family members from any location, remind them about medicine timings, diet or important occasions and send a message or play a song for them.
“Utilising the Rovio mobile webcam’s omni-directional and built-in camera and microphone that stream video and audio, the Buddibot services will allow for remote companionship, support and entertainment,” said Subbu Machiraju, chief executive and co-founder of Buddibot.
The elderly people, not well-versed with technology, can also benefit from this tool as their children or other young family members can remotely control the mobile cam from their place.
The Rovio mobile webcams are available in India for Rs.14,850 at Reliance Digital and online at www.smartbotsdirect.com. The Buddibot subscription services are available for Rs.1,750 per year.
Subbu said the company, which has a tie-up with Montreal-based WowWee Technologies, was targeting the NRIs, estimated to be around 45 million.
He feels that the product had huge market opportunity as the number of the people of 65 years and above are around 500 million.
Buddibot plans to launch the service in other parts of the country in two-to-three months.
The company also has a presence in the US and Australia.
