New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath today called on the entrepreneurs in the sports goods export industry to focus on brand building, as this is an area which is an important ingredient in the value of the product.
Speaking at the Export Awards function here, Nath urged the industry to achieve maximum mileage from the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and work hard for cultivating global standards.
The function was organised by the Sports Goods Export Promotion Council (SGEPC) where Anil Mukhim, Chairman of the SGEPC and senior officials from the Ministry and the Council were present.
While congratulating the award winners, he hoped that the industry would conduct a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis on the potential of this sector and draw a roadmap to evolve growth strategies for the future.
The major strengths of our industry are its people the dynamic entrepreneurs and the skilled labour force at relatively cheaper costs. The skilled force was born out of Indias age-old nurtured and mastered skills in the areas of metal processing, leather crafts, wood crafts and a host of other activities directly connected with the growth of this sector, he added.
Observing that the global competitive environment has undergone a sea change and today business happens at the speed of thought, he said that the highway of this sector has been full of milestone but perhaps the future holds promises to be more exciting than the past.
The government on its part intends to ensure full support for the facilitation of further growth and development of this sector. The infrastructure development is likely to get more focus and this coupled with incentives and promotional schemes will provide the impetus to the exporting community to finally arrive on the world stage, the Minister further added.
