Jute growers to get subsidy over MSP in Bengal
November 4th, 2011 - 12:03 am ICT by IANSKolkata, Nov 3 (IANS) Jute growers of West Bengal will now get a subsidy of Rs.400 per quintal on raw jute over the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs.1,700 per quintal.
“The state government will offer a subsidy of Rs.100 per quintal to the farmers. And the centre has also agreed to pay another Rs.300 per quintal to support them,” state Aricuture Marketing Minister Arup Roy told reporters on the sidelines of “3rd Agro Protect” organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) here Thursday.
Roy said the announcement of the central government support was expected shortly.
Cost of production of raw jute is Rs.1,900 to Rs.1,950 per quintal, while the MSP is Rs.1,700 per quintal.
Earlier, the state government had demanded a support of Rs.400 per quintal but the centre had agreed for Rs.300 per quintal.
