Bangalore, Oct 3 (IANS) Jindal Steel Ltd (JSW) Monday denied a raid by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on its Vijayanagar plant near Karnataka’s Bellary.

“A CBI team visited our Vijayanagar plant Monday morning and sought information about procurement of iron ore,” the company said in a statement here.

Refuting reports in a section of the media, a company spokesman told IANS that the CBI team only asked for information and did not conduct a raid at the plant’s office.

“They (CBI sleuths) came for information and not to raid our office,” the spokesman said.

The company has been procuring iron ore from various sources for its steel production requirements and every tonne procured is accounted, paid for and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations, the statement said.

“We will cooperate and provide all the information that may be sought by the authorities concerned in this regard,” it added.

The CBI, however, raided the residence of mining baron and former state minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and office of his Associated Mining Company (AMC) at Bellary in connection with illegal mining in the state and in Andhra Pradesh.

The CBI sleuths also raided the office of Deccan Mining Syndicate at Bellary in the same connection after registering cases against both the firms earlier in the day.
