Jharkhand’s 12th year to be woman empowerment year: Munda
November 15th, 2011 - 9:42 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, Nov 15 (IANS) Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda Tuesday said the state’s 12th foundation year will be celebrated as women empowerment year.
“We are happy to announce that the 12th foundation year will be celebrated as women empowerment year in the state. Today we are launching the Mukhya Mantri Ladli Yojna (MMLY),” said Munda at a programme marking the state’s 12th foundation day.
Jharkhand, carved out from Bihar on Nov 15, 2000, completed 11 years of its creation Tuesday.
Under the MMLY scheme, the state government will open a bank account for new-born girls and deposit money in the account. The girl will get stipends when she enters classes 10 and 12, and the entire sum will be given to her when she reaches 21 years of age.
Speaking on the occasion, Munda enumerated achievement of his government in last year, citing the successfully holding of the 34th National Games and holding of panchayat polls after 32 years.
He, however, admitted that lot of things needs to be done in road, power and other sectors, but said from Tuesday, the citizen’s charter and electronic system have become functional in the system.
Now people of the state will enjoy the benefits of the right to service act under which work will be done in a stipulated period, Munda added.
Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmad, who was the chief guest, appreciated the state government’s decision to celebrate the 12th foundation of the state as women empowerment year. He also stressed the need to ensure that the development funds meant for the people reached the beneficiaries.
