New Delhi, Aug 27 (IANS) The Jharkhand Police is investigating the media leak of the state’s budget last year before it was presented in the Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said Thursday.
Mukherjee said the state government has examined the matter raised by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Yashwant Sinha and that it has been “referred to Special Branch of the Jharkhand Police for investigation”.
“It has also been informed that appropriate action will be taken by the state government immediately on receipt of the report from the police,” the finance minister said in the Lok Sabha.
The lower house had passed the budget of the centrally-ruled state July 8, 2009 but the details of revenue expenditure and capital expenditure were published in the Ranchi edition of a national Hindi daily two days before the budget was presented.
Mukherjee said the state government had informed that “Dainik Jagran Ranchi edition dated July 6, 2009 had published a news on the Jharkhand general budget 2009-10 showing revenue and capital expenditures under plan and non-plan heads”.
