gh1New York, Mar 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The closure of the main runway at the New York’s JFK airport, is causing a lot of agony to the plane companies. There is a government rule that restricts the amount of time that the passengers can be held on the tarmac. In view of the closure of the main runway at the JFK airport, JetBlue and Delta want temporary exemption from this government rule. They say that if they were not excused from the rule, then they would have to shell out millions of dollars in fines.

This rule, which has been formulated by the Department of Transportation, will come into effect from the 29th of April. The department has also ordered the airlines to let out the passengers from the plane, if the flight is delayed for three hours, and in case the plane company doesn’t follow this rule, then they have to pay a huge fine. That is why JetBlue and Delta want some temporary relief from this rule, as they know that since the runway is closed, so there are liable to be numerous delays and so they would have to pay hefty fines.

JetBlue and Delta are amongst the biggest operators of the New York’s JFK airport, and this airport is already notorious for its delays, so this tarmac delay rule will only complicate the problems for the flight operators.
