gh1New York, March 10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new Government rule that says that passengers on board cannot be held for more than 3 hours on the tarmac and that the airlines will be fined if the time line is crossed has led JetBlue and Delta Airlines to cry foul. The two airlines have reportedly requested the authorities to exempt the John F. Kennedy International Airport from the rule temporarily.

The government rule is scheduled to be implemented from April 29. According to the new rule if the plane is stranded on the tarmac for more than three hours then the authorities might charge $27,500 for each passenger. According to the JetBlue and Delta Airlines authorities, the present runway closure of the John F. Kennedy International Airport can lead to unforeseen flight delays which will then lead to the payment of a hefty fine by the airlines without there being any fault on their part. Mateo Lleras the spokesman of JetBlue Airlines has reportedly said that such a rule will ultimately cause problems to the passenger. He also added that if flights are delayed due to poor weather conditions, then the airline will have to cancel the flight in such a case and that will cause an immense problem to the passengers.

According to reports, American Airlines is also analyzing the situation and will take the necessary action and steps. It is has still not declared whether it will join the other two for the temporary exemption plea. The John F. Kennedy International Airport’s longest runway will remain closed until July and according to the Delta Spokesman Anthony Black, much more time will be needed for the runways to function as before.
