Jet, Kingfisher domestic fares up Rs.200
November 6th, 2009 - 6:07 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Mumbai, Nov 6 (IANS) Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines Friday increased fuel surcharges, pushing up their domestic fares by up to Rs.200.
National carrier Air India and other low-cost carriers haven’t taken a decision in this regard.
According to Jet Airways, the fuel surcharges have been increased by up to Rs.200 on all its domestic flights as well as those of subsidiary carriers JetLite and Jet Konnect with immediate effect.
Kingfisher Airlines made a similar announcement.
Fuel surcharge for flights below 1,000 km has been hiked by Rs.100 and by Rs.200 beyond that for both carriers.
Currently, Indian carriers levy fuel surcharge of Rs.1,950 and Rs.2,700 up to and beyond 1,000 km, respectively.
The hike was triggered by a sharp increase in jet fuel prices after three consecutive fortnights of reduction.
State-owned oil firms had hiked jet fuel prices by 9 percent Oct 31 to over Rs.39,000 per kilolitre following a spurt in international oil rates.
Fuel expenditure constitutes about 35 percent of an airline’s operational costs.
Aviation fuel prices in India had soared to Rs.71,028 per kilolitre in Delhi in August last year when international crude prices peaked to a record high of $147 a barrel.
