Jet Airways No.1 domestic airline fifth consecutive month (Lead)
March 15th, 2010 - 8:49 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 15 (IANS) Domestic airlines carried 3.86 million passengers in February, with Jet Airways (including JetLite) taking the top position with a 26.1 percent market share and leading the domestic aviation market for the fifth consecutive month.
“The changed economic scenario has seen a steady rise in air traffic growth, while the strategic and network initiatives by the airline have enabled it to continually better its performance,” Jet Airways’ chief executive Nikos Kardassis said.
Kingfisher Airlines’ market share in February was 22.7 percent while national carrier Air India’s was 17.2 percent, the civil aviation ministry said in a statement Monday.
The market share of low-cost carriers were IndiGo (14.9 percent), SpiceJet (12 percent) and GoAir (5.5 percent), the ministry said.
According to the ministry, Jet Airways carried 1.08 million passengers during February, Kingfisher 877,000, Air India 663,000, Paramount 62,000 while IndiGo carried 577,000, SpiceJet 465,000 and GoAir 211,000.
Airlines in India carried 4.08 million passengers during January and 4.48 million passengers during December 2009, the statement said.
