JCB enters footwear business

New Delhi, Oct 28 (IANS) Earthmoving and construction equipment major JCB India Thursday entered the footwear market, launching safety and lifestyle shoes, priced between Rs.700 and Rs.3,995.

“We hope to sell to all safety conscious corporates and youngsters looking for style. Our target is to sell 50,000 pairs by end of 2011,” said Vipin Sondhi, managing director and chief executive.

The firm has entered into an agreement with the country’s largest safety shoe manufacturer, Rahman Industries Ltd.

The safety range includes six types of shoes priced at Rs.700-1,200. Fifteen types of lifestyle shoes are priced at Rs.1,995-3,995.

The company said the footwear would be available at Reliance Footprint outlets throughout India. These will also be distributed through its own channels.

“JCB safety shoes are available with anti-static and oil resistant soles to provide excellent grip, while moving in construction sites and other such hazard areas,” the company said in a statement.
