James Murdoch resigns from the board of News Group Newspapers
November 23rd, 2011 - 10:46 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Nov 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) James Murdoch, heir to the Rupert Murdoch media empire, resigned from the board of News Group Newspapers last September, it has now emerged. The company is the parent company of The Sun and The Times and his resignation followed the phone hacking scandal that rocked the parent company of the Murdoch’s, News Corps.
News Group Newspapers has been sued by several personalities for the phone tapping scandal that resulted in the collapse of the News of the World newspaper. James’ resignation from the Sun and the Times was just recently made known.
The 38-year-old has relocated to New York from London after the scandal. News Corps announced that the resignation of James from the board of News Group Newspapers was essential for the company to tidy up following the scandal.
James and his father Rupert were subjects of investigation after the scandal. He took over as the executive chairman of News International in 2007 and he has held that position since then. He appeared before a panel set up by the British Parliament to investigate the scandal and determine how much James, his father and the other executives of the newspaper knew about the scandal.
In most of the civil suits, James and his father are named as defendants.
