It’s end of road for 800 Blueline buses
December 14th, 2010 - 8:48 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 14 (IANS) The Delhi government Tuesday missed the Dec 14 deadline to completely phase out “killer” Blueline buses from the city public transport system, but announced that as many as 823 of these private buses will go off the road from Wednesday as their permits will not be renewed.”There are 2,052 Blueline buses currently plying on the city roads and Jan 31, 2011, will be the final deadline to phase these out as the government is in no mood to extend their permits,” Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely told reporters at a press conference here.
Besides, a total of 389 such buses will get off the road after Dec 31, he added.
The minister said that Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has been directed to make adequate arrangements for providing bus services in the absence of Blueline buses so that the commuters do not face any inconvenience.
The DTC has about 6,500 buses in its fleet.
The city government had in October decided to pull out 1,600 such privately-run buses, but only those whose permits had expired finally went off the road.
