Israeli travel advisory will not affect Goa tourism: Minister
October 16th, 2009 - 10:15 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, Oct 16 (IANS) by The Israel government’s adverse travel advisory, warning of terror attacks in India on its citizens and Jewish temples, will not affect the tourist flow in Goa, the state’s Home Minister Ravi Naik Friday said.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference here, Naik said, “Such advisories do not affect the flow of tourists in Goa”.
The Counter-Terrorism Bureau of Israel Thursday warned its citizens against travelling to India and cited concrete threat to Israeli and western ntionals.
It also warned Israelis to avoid staying in crowded areas and refrain from visiting tourist attractions that are guarded by armed and visible security forces.
The contents of the advisory were widely reported in the Israeli media.
Naik said Goa saw large numbers of crowds despite such advisories being issued in the past by Israel and other countries.
“The international media hypes these issues unnecessarily. Especially when it comes to Goa,” Naik said, reinforcing that the state is the most secure place in the world.
Tourists from Israel, along with Britain, Russia and Germany top the number of tourists arriving in Goa every tourist season. Out of the two million tourists coming to the state each year, nearly 450,000 are foreigners.
