Ryanair July 2 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Ryanair Airlines, an Irish company recently announced a new idea of adding “vertical seating” to their airplanes, making “standing room only” section for passengers who are willing to stand up during an entire flight, at the cost of a 7 or 8 dollar ticket, while adding a $1.50 toilet charge.

In a series of proposals which were laid out by the CEO of Ryanair, Michael O’Leary, the plans fro the standing section for passengers was presented, along with the plans to charge each customer a dollar and a half to use the airplane bathroom.

The plan is to take out about 10 of the existing seats in the 250 planes which are owned by the airline, and take out the existing toilets as well. The plane would be left with 15 rows of seats, a standing area, and the toilets would be replaced with “pay potties”.

The European Safety Agency sees a few things wrong with these plans however, and feels that it would be an incredible struggle to try and make them conform to mandatory safety regulations.”A seat (or berth for a non-ambulant person) must be provided for each occupant who has reached his or her second birthday. This idea (of Ryanair’s) is unprecedented and unlikely to be certified in the near future.” an EASA spokesman said.

The Civil Aviation Authority had this to say, “It’s aviation law that people have to have a seat belt on from takeoff and landing, so they would have to be in a seat. I don’t know how Mr. O’Leary would get around that one. During turbulence, passengers also have to have a seat belt on.”
