DES MOINES, IOWA (BNO NEWS) – Iowa awarded $2.6 million in I-JOBS affordable housing funds to five projects across the state, Governor Chet Culver announced on Wednesday.

The $2.6 million funding represents the final allocations of the $20 million available through the I-JOBS initiative, which continues to make an impact for all citizens.

“I’m pleased that as of today, the I-JOBS Affordable Housing Program has committed all its funds and has accomplished exactly what we intended it to do: create jobs for Iowans and make this state a better place for our residents,” Culver declared.

The I-JOBS initiative was established to assist in the construction and rehabilitation of affordable housing for certain elderly, disabled, and low-income persons and public servants in critical skills shortage areas of the state.

The five projects will take place in Cedar Rapids, Akron, Holstein and two in Woodbine. Three of these projects will rehabilitate apartment buildings serving elderly people.
