Inter Milans Mourinho gives up hope of signing LampardJuly 22nd, 2008 - 1:17 pm ICT by ANI
London, July 22 (ANI): Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho has given up hope of signing midfielder Frank Lampard this summer from Chelsea.
Mourinho accepted that Chelsea star Lamps will start the season at Stamford Bridge and he is now prepared to wait 12 months to get him, The Sun reported.
For Lampard, it will be easier to play with Chelsea until the end of his contract rather than break it now, all of a sudden. It seems to me difficult for him to be able to come here now. Its easier that he comes next season, he added.
The news will be a big boost for new Chelsea chief Phil Scolari, who wants midfielder Lampard to stay.
Scolari has spoken to Lampard every day since taking charge three weeks ago. And he believes that he is slowly talking the 30-year-old England ace around as he underlines his ambitious plans for next season.
As Chelsea arrived in China for the start of their Far East tour, Scolari said: Every day I have spoken to Frank about how we can win games together at Chelsea. We are constantly talking about what is the best way for Chelsea to play and what is the best position for him.
He is training very well. The most important thing is that he is here with us, he added.
Lampard had refused to sign Chelseas offer of a four-year contract worth 130,000 pounds-a-week and wants a five-year deal or a move to Inter.
But Blues chief executive Peter Kenyon said: The fact Frank is here on tour with us is an important statement. We have always said that we want him to stay and we are confident that is what will happen. (ANI)
