New Delhi, Jan 11 (IANS) PHD Chamber Tuesday said infrastructure, healthcare, housing and agri-business will be among the thrust areas of its activities during 2011. “PHD Chamber will focus on infrastructure, industrial policy, power and alternate energy, healthcare, housing, rural development and agri business and education and capacity building,” said Salil Bhandari, president PHD Chamber, here.

The industry body will also come up with policy measures to support industrial growth and help the masses gain economically. According to the chamber, nothern and central states are still lagging behind southern and western states.

“The northern states need to strike a balance between industrial and agricultural growth. The next 10 years are going to be critical for northern states. They have got to reap a massive demographic dividend. The average age in these states will come down to 24 years against 36 years in the southern states,” said Bhandari.

PHD Chamber also said the north Indian states should offer more incentives to industry than being offered by the governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat. “We are developing research paper for every northern state which will help them capitalise on the opportunities.”

Demanding incentives for the transport sectors, Bhandari said: “An efficient rail transport system will also help in easing inflationary pressure. Around 11 lakh tonnes of scrap are lying idle. The government should go for online auction. This will result in huge gain to the exchequer.”

The chamber also suggested promoting skill development in the construction sector.
