Indirect tax collections up 42 percent in eight months
December 15th, 2010 - 9:56 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 15 (IANS) Revenues from indirect taxes in India jumped up 42.3 percent to Rs.2,07,756 crore in the first eight months of the current fiscal (2010-11), led by 67 percent higher collection from custom duties.Revenue collections from indirect taxes that include customs, central excise and service taxes increased to Rs.2,07,756 crore in April-November 2010 as against Rs.1,45,958 crore during the same period last year, according to an official statement released Wednesday.
Collection during the first eight months accounted for 66.3 percent of the total Rs.3,13,471 crore target for the whole fiscal.
The sharpest increase was registered in collections from custom duties that surged 67 percent to Rs.86,844 crore during April-November period. It constitutes 75.5 percent of the targeted Rs.1,15,000 crore for fiscal 2010-11.
Collections from central excise increased to Rs.81,984 crore during the period under review from Rs.61,020 crore during the same period last year, registering a growth of 34.4 percent.
Collection from service tax rose 18.2 percent to Rs.38,927 crore.
