India’s air traffic up 18.3 percent till October
November 22nd, 2010 - 6:15 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 22 (IANS) Led by budget carriers Spicejet, Go Air and IndiGo, India’s domestic airlines registered an 18.3 percent growth, carrying 41.93 million passengers in the January-October period this year as against 35.45 million passengers during the like period last year.
Total domestic passengers carried by scheduled airlines increased 18.05 percent to 4.62 million in October from 3.91 million in the previous month, according to official data released Monday.
Jet Airways along with its subsidiary Jet Lite continued to lead the industry with 26.2 percent market-share in October.
However, the budget carriers were picking up fast. IndiGo controlled 16.8 percent market share while Spicejet had 13.6 percent and Go Air 6.6 percent in terms of number of passengers carried.
With 0.81 million passengers carried in October, the government-run Air India (domestic) controlled 17.7 percent market-share.
Passenger traffic of Spicejet rose 28.3 percent to 0.63 million, Go Air 42.3 percent to 0.30 million and Indigo 43.5 percent to 0.77 million in October.
Coming out of a three-month decline, Kingfisher Airlines carried 6.6 percent more passengers in October. With 0.87 million passengers, Kingfisher controlled 19 percent market-share.
The seat-factor of the domestic airlines in October was Air India (Domestic) 70.8 percent, Jet Airways 73.6 percent, JetLite 80.7 percent, Kingfisher Airlines 87.1 percent, Spicejet 84.4 percent, Go Air 77.4 percent and IndiGo 86.1 percent, the civil aviation ministry said in a statement.
