Mumbai, Oct 16 (IANS) Sensuality and desire were Manav Gangwani’s theme while Suneet Varma’s clothes were a tribute to French fashion during 1890-1914. Both designers offered a visual treat as they unveiled their new collections at the HDIL India Couture Week here.
Gangwani’s collection Thursday was dominated by the colour green and included heavily embroidered lehengas, cholis, saris and anarkali suits with a high dose of crystallised Swarovski elements that added extra bling to the dresses.
“I believe that fashion is all about sensuality and how a woman feels from inside. My collection is very flamboyant as it talks about sensuality and desire,” said Gangwani.
Varma’s line was inspired by the French fashion history and for his show, the backdrop of the ramp was built like an old French building with chandeliers hanging from the rooftop and the ramp was made to look like a street.
Models with that French look and hairstyle sashayed down the ramp in rich dark velvets in jewel tones like teal, maroon, emerald and black with applique embroidery. Braided belts and embroidered stockings with empire line dresses dominated the collection.
Varma, who was inspired by the glamour and history of the Louvre in Paris, told IANS that it was a tribute to an era when fashion started evolving in France.
“I have taken my inspiration from the days of ‘The beautiful era’ from French history, marking the years 1890-1914. That was the time of beautiful clothes and luxury was at its peak,” he said.
Actors Zayed Khan and Shruti Hasan strutted the ramp for Gangwani.
