India, Trinidad and Tobago to strengthen tourism ties
January 17th, 2011 - 9:08 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 17 (IANS) India and Trinidad and Tobago Monday discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the tourism sector, a statement said. The Caribbean nation’s tourism minister Rupert Griffith called on Minister of State for Tourism Sultan Ahmed.
Referring to the low tourist traffic between the two countries, Ahmed stressed the need for regular interaction between the two sides.
Ahmed said that frequent visits will help in strengthening people-to-people contact between the two countries.
He suggested that both countries organise road shows, food and cultural festivals to further strengthen the rich historical and cultural ties that exist between the two countries due to the significant presence of people of Indian origin in Trinidad and Tobago.
“To attract more visitors from each other’s country, both the sides should work to have better connectivity and cost effective travel between the two countries. India and Trinidad & Tobago can work together in the field of sustainable and rural tourism,” he said.
Griffith said that easing of visa regime will benefit both the countries in strengthening tourism ties.
He also said cricket was another great link between the two countries and will help in attracting more visitors.
