New Delhi, Feb 22 (IANS) India and Belarus Wednesday concluded two-days of foreign office consultations here, during which New Delhi conveyed its interest in a long-term arrangement for potash fertiliser supplies.

Belarus is one of the major suppliers of potash fertilizers in the world.

The third round of foreign office consultations were held between Belarus Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei F. Aleinik and Indian Ministry of External Affairs’ Secretary (East) Sanjay Singh.

“Fertilisers formed an important item in the agenda as India is keen on a long term arrangement for the supply of potash fertilisers and Belarus is one of the major suppliers in the world,” a ministry release said.

Reiterating their close cooperation in international fora, Belarus expressed its support for the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism and India’s candidature for a permanent seat in an expanded United Nations Security Council.

Aleinik also called on External Affairs Ministeri S.M. Krishna and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya M. Scindia during his visit. He also had a meeting with Coal Secretary Alok Perti.

“The talks served to further strengthen the close and friendly relations between India and Belarus. The entire gamut of bilateral relations was reviewed during the talks,” the release said.

“Our ongoing cooperation in the area of science and technology was also discussed,” it added.

The two sides also covered issues of common concern in regional and international matters, and their views on the current international situation were also exchanged.
