India, China lose sheen as top offshore marketsDecember 11th, 2008 - 11:36 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Dec 11 (IANS) The BRIC economies (Brazil, Russia, India and China) are losing their sheen as top markets for IT offshore business as several other developing countries are “positioning themselves as credible alternative” in a changing economic scenario, according to a report by global IT research firm Gartner. The latest Gartner report on Top 30 offshore locations said: “The dynamic nature of the market has seen a number of countries position themselves as credible alternatives to the BRIC countries.”
India and China will remain among the market leaders, but they would lose out market share to new entrants, it said.
“Countries such as Mexico, Poland and Vietnam have continued to strengthen their position against leading alternatives,” the report said.
“These countries will be seeking to take advantage of the opportunity created by the increased focus that many organisations now have on cost optimisation, as a result of the current economic crisis,” said Ian Marriott, research vice-president at Gartner.
Thailand has also emerged as a potential market in the Asian Pacific region as it is providing very cost-effective solutions.
“Although only seven countries from the America appeared on the final list of 30, these countries are becoming an attractive proposition for the largest buying market for offshore services - the US,” the report said.
