Bhubaneswar, Nov 28 (IANS) Distressed over his failure to repay a loan, yet another farmer has committed suicide in Orissa’s Sundergarh district, about 400 km from here, his family members alleged Saturday.
According to the family members, Mohan Singh of Mulduri village was under severe stress because he was unable to repay a Rs.10,000 loan he had taken from a local bank.

“He had taken a loan from the bank for agriculture and he could not repay the loan amount due to crop failure. He was under severe stress for the last two days. He hanged himself Friday when no one else was at home,” his wife Radha Singh said.

Following the report a team of officials went to the village and met the bereaved family members.

“Mohan Singh died because he hanged himself. The family members are saying that he was under tremendous pressure due to non-payment of the loan he had taken from the bank. We are probing the incident,” sub divisional police officer Suman Dutta said.

According to a government report, 3,509 farmers in the state have committed suicide in the last 11 years.
