According to U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, IKEA, The Swedish furniture retailer has recalled over 3.36 million window blinds and roll-ups, after a child died and two others nearly entangled.

The recall covers the Roman shades and roll-up blinds which were sold in IKEA stores nationwide, from January 1998 to June 2009, as the roller blinds from that period didn’t have any tension device attached to the bead chord, which appeared fatal to several children across the country.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall when they receive the news of a 1½ year old boy nearly getting strangled earlier this year. IKEA has previously recalled thousands of roman shades and roller blinds in the past two years after a 1 year old girl died and a 2 year old boy had a close call

The recalled blinds are dangerous for children and kids. In the roller blinds, which gather the material on top, a child can get strangled when the pull chain is not attached to the wall or floor with a tension device. And in the roll-up blinds, which gather the material at bottom, a child’s neck can get caught as the pull chain forms a loop. In the Roman shade a child can get strangled if caught between the inner chord and backside of the shade or if the pull chain is not attached to the tension device.

In the previous recall, millions of shades and blinds were recalled after the government received reports of at least five deaths and 16 strangulations.

The recalled shades and roll-ups were made in India, Estinia, China or Poland.

IKEA is currently asking its customers to stop using it and return it to the stores in order to get a full refund.
