January 13th, 2010 - 4:24 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Jan 13 (IANS) Iceland President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson has sought Maharashtra’s cooperation in the fields of clean energy, information technology and oil exploration.
In his meeting with Governor S.C. Jamir here Tuesday evening, Grimsson said Iceland has tremendous potential in the areas of clean energy and oil exploration and Maharashtra should cooperate with his country in these key sectors.
Welcoming the suggestion, Jamir said being the leading industrial state in India, Maharashtra needed surplus power. Such a collaboration with Iceland would be of benefit to the state.
President Grimsson observed that during his ongoing trip, he sensed “a new spirit of confidence” in India.
“Iceland admires India’s diverse culture, history and its modern achievement. It is amazing to see democracy serving as a guiding spirit in the country of over a billion people,” Grimsson noted.
Shortly thereafter, the dignitaries joined to celebrate the 60th birthday of Dorrit Moussaieff, wife of Grimsson, by cutting a cake in Raj Bhavan.
Besides Jamir, his wife Alemla, members of the visiting delegation, Maharashtra Legislative Council chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh, Minister of Protocol Suresh Shetty and others wished her a happy birthday.
Later, President Grimsson presented a memorabilia to Mumbai Police Band Master S.B. Singh and then attended a dinner hosted by the governor in honour of the visiting delegation.
