IAF sorties for stranded passengers in Jammu and Kashmir
January 20th, 2012 - 4:25 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Srinagar, Jan 20 (IANS) The Jammu and Kashmir government Friday announced it is making special arrangements of Indian Air Force (IAF) sorties for airlifting stranded passengers between this summer capital and winter capital Jammu.
“The arrangements are subject to availability of aircraft,” an official statement here quoting Kashmir divisional commissioner Asgar Hassan Samoon said.
“Stranded passengers at Srinagar who are desirous of travelling to Jammu are requested to immediately register themselves at the tourist reception centre near Radio Kashmir, Srinagar, and bring proof of their identity.
“Passengers who have already purchased tickets of state road transport corporation (SRTC) buses for Jammu are also requested to register so that they can be airlifted to Jammu,” it added
Scores of passengers, including many tourists, are presently stranded in Srinagar waiting for the reopening of the Srinagar-Jammu highway which is closed for the last two days following heavy snowfall in the Valley and adjoining areas.
