Hyundai Motor talks to sacked employees
May 3rd, 2010 - 9:55 pm ICT by IANSChennai, May 3 (IANS) Car manufacturer Hyundai Motor India has started direct negotiations with its dismissed employees for a final settlement instead of going through the workers union.
According to a company statement issued here Monday, some employees who were dismissed on disciplinary grounds had approached for a direct settlement.
The company has arrived at a settlement with two workers and the process is underway with another 20 employees, Hyundai Motor said.
Under the settlement, the dismissed workers will get their statutory dues and ex-gratia payment.
The company alleged that the Hyundai Motor India Employees Union (HMIEU) was preventing the workers from signing the direct settlement.
Last year, Hyundai Motor India’s workers went on a six day strike protesting the wage agreement the management negotiated with a workers committee.
Peace was brokered by Tamil Nadu Labour Minister T.M. Anbarasan and an agreement was signed between HMIEU and the management.
As per the agreement, the company took back 20 of the 87 dismissed employees. It did not agree with the union’s demand to absorb the other 67.
The management has now begun direct negotiations to settle the issue.
