Hyundai India’s May volume growth up two percent
June 1st, 2011 - 6:09 pm ICT by IANSChennai, June 1 (IANS) India’s second largest car maker Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) notched up two percent growth in overall sales in May, the company said Wednesday.
While the company registered 14.6 percent growth in domestic market sales, the overall growth average was dragged down by weak exports.
HMIL sold 47,766 units (domestic 31,123 units, exports 16,643 units) in May as against 46,808 units (domestic 27,151, exports 19,657 units) in the corresponding month last year.
The market has slowed down considerably after the first quarter of the year because of increasing interest rates and rising fuel prices among other factors, the company said in a statement.
“HMIL is riding on the success of its recently launched Fluidic Verna, which has received over 12,000 bookings and has maintained its positive growth,” the company’s director (marketing and sales) Arvind Saxena said.
Segment-wise, cumulative sales for the month of May 2011 were led by its A2 segment (Santro, i10, i20) at 40,520 units.
It was followed by A3 segment (Accent and Verna) at 7,110 units, A5 segment (Sonata Transform) at 14 units and sports utility vehicle (SUV) Santa Fe at 122 units sold.
