2011-hyundai-equusJan 9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It is quite evident that Hyundai, the South Korea based automaker is keen on changing its image of cheap entry level car manufacturer. In the last one year, it has rolled out a number of luxury sedans that take on with the elite class rivals like BMW and Mercedes Benz. It was a year back when Hyundai unveiled its Equus luxury sedan in New York to gauge the pulse of the buyers. The 2011 Hyundai Equus is headed for the New York auto show this year. Hyundai is trying to repeat the feat of Lexus, the only difference being its target is Lexus. Even when Hyundai dared to introduce another luxury offering named Genesis, the auto industry veterans stopped short of scoffing at the car maker. Since it went down well with the buyers, Hyundai is now more confident and hence all set to introduce the full fledged luxury offering Equus.

The Equus is set to lock horns with established rivals like the famous BMW 7 Series, Lexus LS and Mercedes S-Class. The encouraging thing is that the Equus has sold well in the first month of its launch in 2010. To be precise, it has exceeded the expectations of market analyst and left behind heavyweights like Jaguar, Rolls Royce and Nissan. The model cruised ahead of its rivals, the fact that other brands offered heavy discounts notwithstanding. In December, 196 models of Equus were sold.

Hyundai tasted success with Equus in its home turf earlier. However, it was re-designed and the company added many enhancements to the model before launching it in United States. The initial success has made it upbeat.
