hp_signPalo Alto, Aug 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The unexpected and shocking resignation of HP CEO Mark Hurd has left the Palo Alto based technology giant as well as the IT industry behemoths stunned. The CEO who was known for his organizational skills and handled the company with maturity and established it as one of the leading IT vendors globally quit his position suddenly in the wake of a sex scandal. The biggest question that looms large at the moment is who will step in his shoes. The management of the company has picked Cathie Lesjak as the interim CEO who will look after the jobs of the ex CEO of the company. A committee has been set up to get a replacement but the job is easier said than done. Irrespective of the scandal and subsequent disgrace heaped on him, Mark Hurd proved his mettle as his CEO and his successor will have to live up to the expectation.

CFO Cathie Lesjak who has been chosen as the interim CEO is sure that she will not hold the designation for long. It is likely that HP will consider both external and internal candidates as the next CEO. The industry buzz is that HP may search in corporate bigwigs like Apple, Microsoft and Oracle to find a suitable candidate for the coveted post.

Phil Schiller, the marketing vice president of Apple may be a worthy contender. HP may also look within its portfolio for the next CEO. Todd Bradley who played a pivotal part in the acquisition of Compaq could be a contender for the top slot. As expected HP is keeping mum on the issue.
