Hooda in Israel to talk agricultural cooperation
April 10th, 2011 - 11:01 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, April 10 (IANS) A high-level delegation from Haryana, led by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, reached Tel Aviv Sunday as part of an India-Israel scheme for promoting agricultural cooperation, officials said here.
The delegation, which is on a six-day visit, was received by Indian Ambassador to Israel Navtej Sarna and will meet Israel’s minister of agriculture and rural development Orit Noked Monday.
A state government spokesman said here that the chief minister would discuss issues concerning agriculture with the representatives of the Israeli government.
These include import of planting material from Israel, visit of Israeli experts for technological upgradation of various crops, manufacturing unit for plastic films or material used in poly houses and net houses, mechanization for post harvest management and processing, he added.
“The chief minister would also discuss the issue of collaboration for establishment of organic centre and a bee centre, new intervention in the field of dairying and fisheries, technology for use of brackish underground water for agricultural and horticultural crops and technology for treatment of city waste water to be used for horticultural crops on the pattern of Israel,” he added.
The delegation will visit various agricultural research centres, organic farm and water conservation centres.
The first India-Israel Centre of Excellence for vegetables was inaugurated in Haryana’s Gharaunda town January this year.
The vegetables centre project, under which both countries will share technology and jointly undertake protected cultivation of various vegetables, including tomatoes, cucumbers and capsicum, has been set up at Gharaunda town in Haryana’s Karnal district, 145 km from Chandigarh.
