honda-dealer Aug 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) An announcement was made by Honda on Monday which recalled over 400,000 older model Accord, Civic, and Element cars in the United States and Canada because of problems with the ignition which could allow the cars to roll away when they are supposed to be in park, after on woman was almost ran over by her own car.

Honda stated that if the ignition interlock mechanism obtains wear and tear or is damaged, that is becomes possible for the key to be taken out of the ignition while to car is not in park. It could also allow the car to roll away unexpectedly and crash.

The recall involves 2003-2004 models of the above mentioned cars, and in Canada some of the Acuras are also being recalled. Customers will receive notification in September.

The car manufacturer has received reports of ten crashes due to this problem, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Commission says that eleven crashes have been reported, which includes the woman who was almost ran down by her own car when it was parked in her driveway. Only minor injuries have been reported so far with these crashes.
